Why is there only ten names? Shouldn’t there be ten each for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday? Am I missing something?

 on  09/24  at  03:46 PM

Merlin’s pants! Oh well, it was a good run. Congratulations to all those who won...you are the luckiest people ever! Now if you don’t mind I’m going to watch Heroes and look up Penetanguishene on a map…

 on  09/24  at  03:49 PM

ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON & ON
(sigh) Congratulations.

 on  09/24  at  03:53 PM

If we entered earlier today before these results were posted, are we still going to be included in tomorrow’s draw? Stupid question, but I just want to make sure that I don’t miss out on any of the remaining days where I could still possibly win… oh… and congratulations to everyone who won today… I was going to say that at the beginning of this comment, but I must’ve forgotten because of my insane jealousy… blank stare

 on  09/24  at  04:06 PM

Hey Ellen - If you enter today, you’ll be in the batch that gets drawn from tomorrow. Everything’s back to normal now that the weekend’s over.

 on  09/24  at  04:14 PM

ARGH! I want to win so badly! I’ve entered every day… and I do agree that there should have been seperate draws for each day, or one large draw… oh well, still five more tries… downer

 on  09/24  at  04:14 PM

NO.  :C ...

Merlins baggy y-fronts.

 on  09/24  at  04:47 PM

I’m never ever going to win am I?
And how do you guys choose the winners? Is it like 1 come 1st serve?

 on  09/24  at  04:55 PM

nooooooo! No luck again today :(
If I beg you and tell you I am the hugest Harry Potter fan ever and would win any trivia contest thrown at me, could I possibly get just one ickle ticket? *sticks out bottom lip* pwease?

 on  09/24  at  05:02 PM

Yeah, I’d like to know what Rebecca asked too. Since these are the winners for the 24th, where are saturday and sundays winners?

 on  09/24  at  06:08 PM

AGAIN NO ONE FROM BC, ALTA, MAN.  ETC.  5 OUT OF 10 FROM TORONTO.  COME ON!!!!!!!
YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD DRAWS FROM EACH OF THE 10 PROVENCES.  THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FAIR TO ALL PROVINCES

 on  09/24  at  06:27 PM

Why has there been no Winners from Manitoba? Shouldn’t there be winners from every area of the country to be fair?

 on  09/24  at  06:34 PM

And yet again...no “Koatha Sharif: Toronto, ON” :( I kept on checking for the results all day long! Poo…

Ah, well congrats to those guys who won, and let’s keep hoping I win for tomorrow! smile

 on  09/24  at  06:44 PM

i’d assume that since the contest doesn’t include a means to get to toronto that a disproportionate amount of entrants are located within driving range.  i also thought there were going to be 40 winners today.  oh well.

 on  09/24  at  09:29 PM

I think I’ve already resigned myself to the fact that I’m most likely not gonna win. Though it gets me...why can’t I ever be one of the ‘lucky ones’? Oh well, no time for angsting. I’m glad that Jo’s showing some love to Canadians. Who knows, maybe someone will post up a detailed report or something on the net so I can at least know what happened. Still, this is a really great thing Raincoast is doing, giving an equal opportunity for Canadians to get to meet Jo. Good on ya! Though I’m still a bit pissed about the (one draw for the entire weekend thing. I mean really, weren’t our chances bad enough already?)

Still thanks smile

The reason why the winners are from Ontario is because the event is being HELD in Ontario. Yes there are some people from other provinces who could travel the distance but the numbers aren’t as large compared to the 34537598345 Ontario residents who can enter freely without caring about distance.

Personally, for an event with 950 people, i wish there was other methods to obtain tickets. i know there are other sites, but it’s only for kids who are like 7 - 10… but like, COME ON!! 7 years old?! Harry Potter books are older that you!!

 on  09/24  at  10:16 PM

Shouldn’t there have been 30 winners for Monday’s draw?  ?????
10 for Friday, 10 for Saturday and 10 for Sunday?

 on  09/25  at  05:52 AM

I agree. Some sites are being totally age-ist because they continue to hold onto the belief that only children should read Harry Potter books, or meeting JK Rowling is a wonderful experience only children should have, not even trying to realize the point that most kids that young probably won’t even appreciate meeting Jo Rowling. At that age, of course they’ll say they like HP but there’s no telling what they’ll get into as they get older. Those same kids who go to the wonderful event might not even care in five years. But you know that the adults, the ones who are practically wittling themselves away with stress of work, relationships, uni/college and/or kids would really appreciate having the amazing chance to meet one of their idols - and will probably appreciate it for a long time.

But no, the kids are our future so forget us lol.

Still, I think this is probably the best way to give out tickets - at random. It’s not discriminating via class: think about it this way. If people could buy tickets, those tickets would be what $200? There are Harry Potter fans who would kill (something imaginery thus keeping them out of prison) for those tickets, but wouldn’t be able to afford them (that IS quite a bit of money for one ticket). Then again there are those whose mommys and daddys will buy up about 30 for a birthday party to impress their little princess/prince, regardless of whether the majority of her friends actually care about going. Doing it this way almost ensures that people entering and therefore winning are those that really want to go and get to go regardless of how much money they have.

But it’s frustrating since a lot of us are going to be left on the wayside. But that’s the nature of lottery.

How come there are so few winners from Quebec, perhaps 1 or 2?  And you’ve counted the weekend as one day?  I don’t think the contest started out that way, too bad!

 on  09/25  at  06:31 AM

Hi, I just want to know something. If i don’t win this contest, where can i get tickets? The site said it was available else where but where exactly? I live in quebec and i didn’t find any place where they have tickets for that! Please, can you help me?

How about anyone from Burlington Ontario?
There have been people winning from Hamilton and Oakville but not Burlington angry

 on  09/25  at  11:50 AM

I have a question, if I am over 18, do I still have to include my parent/guardian’s name/address/number?...haha, thing is, my parent’s have a very dursley-ish attitude over the books :(

 on  09/25  at  12:22 PM

I COMPLETELY agree with christina gayle and rem. The OLA contests are totally unfair. They’re for little kids who (like chrstina said) are probably younger then Harry Potter. I mean COME ON PEOPLE, its been… What? 10 years since Harry Potter came out? OBVIOUSLY those little kids and teenagers who started reading HP have grown up. The little kids are teeangers now and most of them are probably over the age 15. And those teenagers, well they’re probably are adults now. Those little 7-15 year olds (like rem said) probably won’t even appreciate an event like this. Well maybe the 14 and 15 year olds, but the rest… YEAH RIGHT. ARGH!

Wow, lots of questions to answer.... Here we go…

Rebecca & Sheila - There are 10 names drawn today, because we had enough tickets to give 10 pairs of tickets away fror 10 days. This meant two weeks of Monday to Friday. The people who entered over the weekend were entered into the draw that took place on Monday.

Why is there only ten names? Shouldn’t there be ten each for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday? Am I missing something?

Ravjot - The winners names are chosen in random draws.

Ellen & Erin & Sheila - The way it works is if, for example, you enter on Tuesday, your name will go into the batch that we draw names from on Wednesday.

K.A.L. - The draw’s open to people from across Canada. It’s a completely random draw, so we’re not picking people based on where they live.

Karine - The OLA is giving away some tickets via teachers and librarians:
http://blogs.raincoast.com/weblog/comments/attention-canadian-teachers-and-librarians/

Wajiha - If you’re 18, you don’t need permission from your parent/guardian to enter.

Hope that helps!
